Five feet 9.5 inches tall, sandy complexion, sandy hair, gray eyes; 18 years, 11 months, 11 days of age on day of the Raid. Saw mill engineer. Born May 1, 1843, Taylorsville, Highland County, Ohio to Samuel Robertson Sr. (b. March 15, 1798; d. February 13, 1844) and Julia Ann Gater Robertson, (b. June 2, 1801), married March 11, 1824. Hanged June 18, 1862, at southeast corner of Fair Street (now Memorial Drive) and South Park Avenue, Atlanta, GA. Buried temporarily at site of execution. Remains removed to the National Cemetery, Chattanooga, TN, April 25, 1866, near Ohio Memorial, Section H, Grave No. 11,177. Medal of Honor marker at grave. Enrolled as Private, Co. G 33rd Ohio Infantry Regiment, September 1, 1861, Bourneville, Ohio, for three years. Mustered September 12, 1861. Volunteered Andrews Raid, April 7, 1862. Captured. Court-martialed, Knoxville, TN, General Orders No. 54, 1862, HQ Department of East Tennessee, CSA. Saw action in Andrews Raid. Medal of Honor awarded September, 1863. Pension $8 per month, No. 120,246. |
